Fees, insurance and sliding scale

Sliding Scale and Low-Cost Counselling in SE Calgary

Cost shouldn't decide whether you get support. Clearview Counselling offers a sliding scale for people with limited or no insurance coverage and financial constraints. You and your counsellor agree on a rate together at a free meet-and-greet session.

Standard fees, 60 minutes

Psychologist$235
Counselling therapist$200

Sliding scale available. Direct billing to many insurers. Free meet-and-greet first.

How our fees work

Our team includes psychologists and counselling therapists, and fees reflect the difference in professional designation and regulatory requirements. Payment is by credit, debit or e-transfer, and we provide receipts for insurance claims.

Psychologists

$235

Per session. This follows the Psychological Association of Alberta's guideline of $235 for 50 minutes; our sessions run a full 60 minutes.

Counselling therapists

$200

Per 60-minute session.

Sliding scale

Agreed together

A reduced rate for people with limited or no insurance coverage and financial constraints, set with your counsellor at your free meet-and-greet.

Who the sliding scale is for

The sliding scale is for people who have little or no insurance coverage and for whom our standard fee would be a real barrier. Rather than a fixed chart, your counsellor talks with you about what is workable, privately, during your free meet-and-greet.

If cost is on your mind, say so when you book or at the start of your meet-and-greet. It is a normal part of the conversation, and it helps us find an arrangement that lets you keep coming.

Other ways to lower the cost

Insurance and direct billing

Most extended health plans include coverage for psychological services. Every member of our team can direct bill Green Shield, RWAM, Wawanesa and Sun Life, and our psychologists can also bill many other plans, including Alberta Blue Cross, Canada Life, Manulife and Medavie Blue Cross. Plans tend to cover Registered Psychologists more often than other counselling professionals, so it is worth checking what yours includes. See the full list on our insurance and direct billing page.

Employee and family assistance programs

Many employers offer an Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP or EAP) that covers a set number of free counselling sessions, often somewhere between three and ten. Your HR department or benefits provider can tell you what yours covers.

Third-party payers

We also work with third-party payers, including the Breaking Free Foundation, the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and accident benefits providers.

Online sessions

Secure online sessions are available anywhere in Alberta, which can save the time and cost of travelling to our office in Midpark.
